Building Revitalization Project

The White Rock Museum + Archives, in partnership with the City of White Rock, has the opportunity to develop a revitalization plan that will help make the museum a focal point of cultural activity on the waterfront. The central feature of the original architecture of the historic 1913 train station. Re-instituting the breezeway will allow for a dramatic entryway connecting the city to the waterfront, allowing vastly improved public access, as well as creating an expanded exhibit gallery and public programming space.

Benefits

  • Increased use and visibility
  • Expanded programming
  • Increased tourism
  • Increased exhibition space
  • A lasting legacy and community support and partnership

Vision Statement: Valuing Heritage, Celebrating Learning

The Museum + Archives' vision is a simple statement about the type of public institution we wish to be. In some respects it is a reflection of what we have already achieved; in others it is a statement of how we would like to expand. Overall it is a common aim for everything we do from preparing exhibits, to education the public, to delivering programs, to promoting White Rock history. We recognize our need to evolve and that it is necessary to respond to the expectations and needs of the community we serve.

Project Objectives

  • Promoting cultural tourism
  • Expanded museum exhibits and programming
  • Public multi-use
  • Increased revenue and visibility
  • Sustainability and lasting impact
  • Building community partnerships

Identity

  • Establish the museum as an essential service within the community. We seek to be a dynamic center that is interactive and educational.
  • Create a clear identity for the Museum + Archives using four stories integral to the community: Natural History, First Nations History, Railway History and Settlement History.
